Dental Implants
............................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements. They have been used for over 40 years worldwide, and with advancements in technology, the quality and technology of implants have continued to improve. Implant surgery is now recognized by the medical community as an effective and durable method for treating tooth loss. People can lose teeth due to various reasons throughout their lives, such as tooth decay, trauma, or periodontal disease. Dental replacements come in various forms, such as removable dentures and bridges. However, these traditional methods cannot compare to the chewing power, aesthetics, or feel of natural teeth. Dental implants involve surgically implanting titanium screws into the patient's jawbone to replace tooth roots. These titanium screws fuse with the jawbone and then serve as the foundation for crowns, bridges, or removable dentures. Unlike traditional dentures, implants provide the same chewing power as natural teeth without the gum pain associated with removable dentures. They offer beautiful and chewable teeth, and many patients praise their resemblance to real teeth. Can I get dental implants? Advances in dentistry mean more and more people can enjoy the benefits of dental implants. However, there are some limitations to dental implants. For example, if the alveolar bone is too small, it may affect the placement of an implant. In these cases, bone grafting can be used to expand the alveolar bone to create sufficient bone for the implant. A successful dental implant placement requires careful consideration and planning. To achieve the best possible outcome, a thorough pre-procedure examination is essential. We can help you determine whether dental implants or other options are best for you.

Bone grafting surgery
Dental implants are a reliable treatment that has benefited over a million people worldwide, but they do have some limitations. A key factor in the success of dental implants is the availability of sufficient and strong bone to accommodate and support the implant. Long-standing periodontal disease or chronic root inflammation can lead to alveolar bone loss. In these cases, bone grafting can expand the alveolar bone for future implant placement.

Wisdom teeth (impacted teeth)
............................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Adults have 32 teeth (permanent teeth), 28 of which erupt around age 13. The last four teeth to erupt are the third molars, commonly known as wisdom teeth or impacted teeth, which typically erupt between the ages of 18 and 25. They are called wisdom teeth because they arrive just as people enter adulthood, when they typically begin to develop a certain level of wisdom. Problems with wisdom teeth, such as impacted wisdom teeth, are very common. Impacted wisdom teeth can accumulate dirt and bacteria, leading to infection or inflammation. They can also cause cavities in nearby teeth and, in severe cases, even cystic lesions that erode the jawbone. Symptoms of impacted wisdom teeth becoming inflamed include facial swelling, a tight jawbone, abscesses, and pain. Surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth can prevent and treat these problems. The medical community now recommends removing impacted wisdom teeth, which are more likely to become inflamed, to prevent damage if problems arise.

Most adults have 32 teeth in their mouths, but some have more. These extra teeth are called supernumerary teeth. Most supernumerary teeth are impacted, or permanently embedded in the jawbone and never erupt. They cause no symptoms, but they can cause cystic lesions and, in severe cases, erode the jawbone and adjacent teeth. Problematic supernumerary teeth should be surgically removed. A simple dental examination and X-rays can diagnose whether your supernumerary teeth are problematic.

Intravenous sedation versus local anesthesia

We understand that no one likes pain, and few people enjoy the dental process. If you require complex dental treatment or are extremely afraid of the dentist, you may consider intravenous sedation during your treatment. Most minor oral surgeries can now be performed under local anesthesia. Under local anesthesia, the area being operated on becomes numb and painless, but the patient remains awake and aware. However, this approach is not ideal for larger cavity surgeries (such as full-mouth implants, impacted or supernumerary tooth removal), or for patients with dental concerns. Patients may still experience movement and hearing noises during the procedure, which can be unsettling and uncomfortable. To ensure a more relaxed, stress-free, and safe environment for cavity surgery and dental treatment, our professional doctors offer intravenous sedation for patients who require it. This allows patients to feel more comfortable during treatment, resulting in a beautiful smile. In addition, we can also arrange for patients in need to go to private hospitals (e.g. St. Teresa's Hospital, Kowloon) to undergo related oral surgery and treatment under general anesthesia.
